Hello!
I’ve tried to nominate this one several times, location 41.3146729, -7.4096014. It’s a public washhouse, a community fountain that people use/used to wash their clothes. They are very common in Europe and many of them are poi.
However, every time I try to nominate it, it is rejected by Niantic in less than 24 hours. It says it does not meet the criteria. I’ve tried other photos and titles, but Niantic always refuses, without even going through human evaluation.
Someone knows how I can make it beeing evaluete by humans?
Thanks.
So would it fair to compare this to a Laundrette (launderette | English meaning - Cambridge Dictionary) but possibly with or without a payment method? I would personally struggle to approve one of those, but would be keen to hear how it is eligible. Is it a great place to socialise and explore? I’m not sure on that one. If the consenus supports these nomnations, I know a few laundrettes in my local area that I could submit.
I don’t know why ML is rejecting this. But as a human reviewer, i would need a lot of convincing that this is an eligible wayspot. We don’t have places exactly like this in my country. But we do have public places where people go to wash their clithes - we call them laundromats. I don’t think a laundromat meets any of the criteria.
There can be a social aspect to a laundromat, but that’s secondary to the primary reason people go there. At least in my country, no one would choose to go to a laundromat if they had any other option to wash their clothes. The fact that they might talk to someone while waiting for their clothes to finish doesn’t make it a “destination” for social activity.
Can you explain how this is a “destination” for social activity in your community? Would people (probably women) choose to wash their clothes at home if that was available to them?
Sorry, I don’t know the right name in english for it. In portuguese is “lavadouro”, in french is “lavoir”. You can search for images to find if it is like the ones in your area. Is a kind of water tank/fountain to wash clothes manually. Is a good place to socialize and explore (because most of them are from the XIX century).
In fact, most of these places are no longer used nowadays because everyone does their laundry at home. This was the meeting point for the entire village, the place where women usually went to wash their clothes before there was running water and machines. Given the time it took each person to complete their task, this same time was spent in pleasant conversation, “washing clothes” and exchanging knowledge and information. Although they are currently still widely used, they are gradually transforming into tourist and historical elements.
That is all good information to include. I would do some research on the internet. Surely there is a website somewhere that talks about the cultural relevance of these places. I would read that and summarize that information in my submission (or appeal). But you should still be prepared for others not to agree with you that an “abandoned” washing station makes a good wayspot. We’ve all had those places where we see the relevance but we can’t seem to get others to agree with us.
I don’t want to say a hard no. But I would default to the opinions of the more seasoned reviewers. I personally don’t see this as being an absolute yes. I hope you get a human appeal reviewer that works in your favour and look forward to seeing the feedback you will get from Niantic
