hey there! I was curious if I could have an ambassador review my rejected nomination. It was voted as a duplicate however, the entrance sign is definitely not a waypoint. I have double checked, and this entrance sign has nothing on it whatsoever. I would love for an ambassador to approve this for me because this was not fair and I do not have any more nomination appeals left.
this nomination is for the “Saint Monica Welcome Sign”
description:
St Monica welcome sign located near the front of the church campus by the main road! This is the first sign you see on campus and greets you with a warm welcome.
address:
A, 699 County Rd 95A, Cantonment, FL 32533,
Not an ambassador, but here is what people went by who marked it duplicate (from Niantic Wayfarer )
Should the sign for a Wayspot nomination be marked as a duplicate if there is already a Wayspot for the object the sign represents?
If the sign is a significant distance from the object then it should be considered on its own. If it is close, such as with a church sign and a nearby church building, then it should be marked as a duplicate.
if you are only interested in making pokestops like your supporting says, you will need to study up on S2 cells. i keep this written up to explain
I know the prompt tells you that you are submitting a “Pokestop” but you are actually submitting a Wayspot to the database. The Wayspot can only become a Pokestop or gym if it is alone in a level 17 S2 cell. This is a good article about S2 cells and PoGo: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
and secondly, your supporting statement should not be about why it would be good for any specific game to include this location. it should be about how the nominated thing meets any of the criteria of a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social, as well as any extra information a reviewer would need to know to approve it, like how to verify location or links to proof of existance.
I know rejections can be very disappointing. And yes the church is a viable wayspot. That said, @cyndiepooh did pull the relevant information on how this type of thing is evaluated.
The sign could be an anchor for the church. But since the church already exists it will be marked as a duplicate.
Especially around churches, I like to think about if the object itself is something independently that I would go to socialize, explore, or exercise at. For example a large cross in the garden would be an independent place to worship/explore. A basketball hoop behind the hall is a place to exercise.
i really do appreciate this feedback, and i would love to use something that actually lets me view all the cells in my area. i have no idea how you got that photo or what program you used but i need that so i can actually understand what is even in my area! also, the church being tied makes sense. i just need that map so i can really understand.
also, so there cant be two pokestops that overlap that little circle? im still confused about that im very visual
i have done alot of ones in this area because it is a good spot but they keep getting turned into things for other games. its so discouraging because im just trying to build a place for my homebase for my niantic group to do raids and stops
No, those circles are the 20 m radius for Ingress portals; the map is the Ingress Intel map with a S2 cell overlay. There can only be 1 stop/gym per L17 S2 cell in PoGo; gyms are decided based on the larger L14 cells, and there has to be at least 2 Wayspots in a L14 cell for a gym to appear.
As for the map, being that Ingress is splitting from the other games (see this article), we don’t know if it will be the same in the future. We don’t know if we’ll be able to add an S2 overlay to it, since PoGo will be owned by Scopely and Ingress by Niantic Spatial.
Cyndie did post the link that explains how S2 cells work in PoGo, and it’s very helpful to understand what may or may not become stops/gyms, so you may want to check that out.
Keep in mind that even if a Wayspot doesn’t get added to PoGo as a stop/gym, it may become a Power Spot in the future. Power Spots are a mix of unused Wayspots and imports; I have seen some of my Wayspots that aren’t in PoGo show up as Power Spots from time to time.
okay i tried logging in and it wont let me, i need to be able to seee whats happening and those cells so i can even understand the whole thing. i get it a little bit but i just need someone to drop a link for a map i can actually use thats accurate
You have to have an Ingress game account to use the Intel map, but again, we don’t know if we’ll have the same access to it in the future. The current S2 overlay is also a user-created extension, so it’s not officially endorsed by Ingress/PoGo/Wayfarer. Ingress is also splitting from Wayfarer in the near future (see the article I linked to for more info), so we also don’t know if the overlay will be allowed in the future at this point. This is why I don’t know if we can recommend creating a Ingress account right now to have access to the map and the overlay, as the overlay may not be available in the future.
I certainly understand wanting more stops/gyms in PoGo, as when I started doing Wayfarer, not all of mine showed up. But I learned that other games do use the Wayspots, and I felt happy that others may get to use them in other games. I also came to understand that we’re building a database map, not game place locations, that’s used by several games, as well as app/software developers.
I have to disagree, as I have found that map so hard to use when it comes to S2 cells. It’s also user-generated, so if someone has not yet added a stop/gym to the map, one may think that cell is empty, but it may not.
There are some links that aren’t allowed, and the PoGo Map link is one of them. Staff and anyone with mod privileges, such as the ambos, know what is allowed and what isn’t.
It could be both. I find it hard to use for S2 cells; just doesn’t work the best for me. And since the data is user-generated, like I noted, you may not know if there is already a stop/gym in the cell if it hasn’t been added yet.
Really, the only thing I do with it is add stops/gyms to it that aren’t already on it. Not everyone is going to take the time to populate it though.
The readme there tells you everything you need to do to install it and staff said I could share a screenshot. But I haven’t been encouraging anyone to set up this map of portals with Ingress separating from Wayfarer. idk what will happen.
