Why am I being told my nomination is a duplicate?

Hi! I’m new to this and need to understand why my contribution and appeal were denied before I give any more time.

I live near a large park with 5 tennis, 3 pickle ball, 2 basketball and 2 volleyball courts; as well as a large playground, restrooms and walking paths. Within all that, there are only 2 pokestops: a memorial bench and the entrance sign.

I suggested the playground as a waypoint and was told it’s a duplicate. This is mindblowingly frustrating. It is absolutely not! Look at the photos!

An Entrance Sign is usually used as an “anchor” for the Park itself.

You might be able to nominate each of the sports (1 x Tennis, 1 x Pickle ball etc).

The playground is already a wayspot

Edit: and this is the way the cells lay out for the complex so you can maybe carefully place the basketball courts

Here’s how I would do it. Submit the volleyball court in the top left cell, pin the basketball court on the court but along the edge in the open cell and submit the tennis courts in the lower left cell

reminder that the courtsoftheworld imports are not used by ingress and do not show up on iitc, but is already a wayspot

the pin for it seems to be here

No picture and doesn’t mention the court, why couldn’t the courts still be submitted?

Yep, found the duplicate, and it’s in the same L17 S2 cell as the memorial bench:

PoGo uses S2 cells to determine game play locations, with 1 Wayspot allowed per L17 S2 cell. Since the bench is already the Wayspot in this cell, the playground can’t be a stop/gym, but it may be a Power Spot from time to time. More info on S2 cells and PoGo can be found here:

https://pokemongohub.net/post/featured/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

You can still nominate the basektball and tennis courts, but due to the S2 cells, they may not appear in PoGo as stops/gyms. If you submit the basketball court and place the location pin on the north side between the 2 courts, that would put it in an empty S2 cell. The west volleyball court could be pinned on the west side, but the tennis courts I would center, so it’d be in the same S2 cell as the playground and bench. The east volleyball court, regardeless of where the pin is placed, would be in either the cell with the playground/bench or the park sign. See the blue dots on the image below:

Keep in mnid that besides Power Spots, unused Wayspots are used in other games than just PoGo.

They play PoGo, not Ingress, and have said that this isn’t in PoGo. Just the bench and park sign are in PoGo.

just saying that if there is already a wayspot there, a lot of folks will know this is a courtsoftheworld import and will reject as duplicate. others won’t. i just don’t want to subject the op to yet another duplicate rejection for something else they couldn’t see.

i hope the op knows now to check for wayspots that don’t show in pokemon go by turning the toggle on in the nomination map screen while on site. it only works over a short distance so you have to be right there.

edited to add a screenshot of the pogo toggle

Hardly anyone knows about the Courts of the World program who are reviewing these days, so I disagree. I can’t tell that this is a Courts of the World import, as it’s not related to the basketball court in anyway, just the park. Now, if it was named as a basketball court, then reviewers might mark as a duplicate.

i don’t see where the way Pokemon Go uses S2 cells is explained, either, but i do see illustrations of the cells. this is a great article explaining that
https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

Of course, the cells had nothing to do with why the nomination was marked duplicate, just explains why it couldn’t be seen in game.

I did provide the info.

Is the track to the north a part of the complex? I don’t see that it has a Wayspot, and that area has no occupied S2 cells.

I would still try to submit first, if it gets rejected as a dup it’ll now have a picture. Then you could request a location edit in the wayfarer help chat but there’s no guarantee they’ll place it where you want them to. Currently that wayspot is incorrectly placed in the middle of the field of play so an edit wouldn’t be wrong either .

I disagree with DTrain that the courts need to submitted in the center. They’re all eligible.

No, with tennis court complexes, only one Wayspot is eligible. There’s a pickleball complex at the part I live near by, and only the complex is a Wayspot, not each court.

If any of these fields belong to the school, they should not be submitted. If they don’t, in addition to the suggestions previously made, you could submit each of the baseball fields at the top, pinning to the backstop, and the soccer fields at Heritage Park. Do be certain they do not belong to the school because it certainly looks like they could. If you have evidence these are public parks, you should link that in the supporting section.

Where’s that rule stated?

there is no such rule. in fact you should not pin in the center Niantic Wayfarer

I can’t keep up with this conversation, so will stop trying.

Guess I’m leaving, too. Sorry @missionaddicts8

No reason to be sorry we just disagree. I think all three of us explained fully what happened and ways to get other spots in OPs game of choice. Hopefully they’ll be able to make sense of it and don’t get too frustrated by the process.
