Although I mostly play Ingress, I do also play PoGo and Pikmin Bloom. I do submit wayspots that won’t show in either PoGo or Ingress because they will often end up in Pikmin Bloom postcards and be unusual ones.
Still have a lot of pending edits I made for this challenge using the remote editing feature of Ingress.
My hope is that Scopely remove the cell restrictions which I personally believe are the cause of much of the “abuse” we see with mis representing or inaccurate locations
If people could just submit everything where they find it without considering arbitrary cells then it would mean there is much less “reason” for abusive edits and mis-locating new submissions
It would also benefit less central areas where we often find small clusters of things ie village green, post office, war memorial, noticeboard all in 1 cell and then nothing much else around.
So that is my big hope for this change
especially considering how much of the original map was submitted by Ingress.
Love this! Just drop the S2 cells algorithm and there would be no need for iitc and pogotools! I would like to see them use an Ingress-style proximity though, because we all have experienced how difficult it is to access Pokestops and gyms which are practically on top of each other.
Yes definitely and proximity is sooo much easier to explain too!
In my experience the WORST experience wit proximity is during Go Fest at the park where Niantic actually choose to have everything so overlapped you cant click anything. Its horrible. But out in the normal world, generally proximity stuff is limited to a couple of things in a whole area and its much less of an issue
Yup. I remember one of the first big Pokémon Go events in the UK down in Chester, when legendary raids were brand new. There were several instances of more than one Pokéstop in the exact same position, and it was basically a coin flip as to which one you ended up tapping on. That wasn’t so fun.
I do think there definitely needs to be some sort of proximity rule, but S2 Cells are somewhat arbitrary and not very intuitive for people to understand without the Go Hub Guide. A simple radius based rule like Ingress uses would probably be better.
I don’t really see Scopely doing anything to change the proximity rules though. I could maybe see them changing the eligibility criteria, but I think that the Cell system is unfortunately here to stay, as they do use it for several things outside of Pokéstop proximity and Gym creation.
They could still use the cells for gym creation, but not limit stops by the small cells - use proximity instead
Win win right?
I think this is a bold and great idea to be fair. What Scopely could do is say for each area where there are more than 1 wayspot within a certain distance, one will be a Pokestop, another could be a Powerspot, Gym or something else. Also, I wouldn’t say no to more Gyms.
Does this mean you won’t be able to post the PokemonGoHub S2 Explanation Link any more? I don’t think we are ready for that.
I think it could really help some areas, like this example which is a housing estate with some PoIs but they are so clumped together that theres not that many things in game
My local area has been quite fortunate in that there are plenty of Wayspots, but some are clustered in cells… I just wish there were different rules in place so more Wayspots could appear.
Oof but then will all Powerspots be from imports if L17 rule is thrown out? Fun to think about, but so many decisions depend on PoGo not using all Wayspots that there are probably repercussions I am not thinking of.
Maybe could go over to a rule similar to gym formation per big cell for setting power spots?
And yeah Im sure there are other considerations but Ingress works without a cell restriction so I am sure there is a way
The Gym formation rules would also need to change as well. So we could end up with more or less Gyms.
I think the big cells for gyms works fine. Its the rule about the little cells that I think is counter productive
The main thing for me is that I will essentially have to nominate and review things twice over. This does make me feel less eager to contribute to either map given the effort vs reward proposition has significantly shifted to one side.
Oh I agree proximity can be a pain in PoGo where all the POIs are in roughly the same location, e.g. a small village. But unpicking that might be difficult..
The thought of nominating the same thing twice will be annoying but once you have polished the nomination in one system its fairly straight forward to transfer to a second.
If you have to review twice? …that’s not going to happen. I’m a slow reviewer at the best of times.
