Wayfarer and Ingress Updates - Discussion

Forever, new(er) people that come to the forum looking for guidance on why their nomination is not showing up in PokĆ©mon Go. They have been given the advice that "I know the prompt tells you that you are submitting a ā€œPokestopā€ but you are actually submitting a Wayspot to the (Niantic, or Lightship, or Geospatial browser, blah blah blah) database. And then we send them to the GoHub article about S2 Cells. (Which as of this writing have yet to be acknowledged by Niantic or Scopley, aside from from a comment from @NianticTintino telling us to ask Scopley)

https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

Well, post 15 April 2025 10:30AM PST that no longer will be 100% accurate. Because any nominations made in Pokemon GO will not be feeding Ingress Prime, they will only be feeding Pokemon Go. I say that because MHN and Pikmin Bloom haven’t had a sync in months. (Maybe that changes)

So, nominations now will be truly be ā€œPokestopsā€ for Pokemon Go.
I wanted to put this out there as an additional question for @NianticTintino to talk to Scopley in hopes of getting an answer.

  1. We don’t know if the current inclusion rules are going to remain the same or change.
  2. We don’t know if S2 cells are going to be publicly acknowledged.
  3. We don’t know if the 20 meter rule is going to come over with the change in ownership. (should it?)

There are a lot of ASSUMPTIONS that we can make post 15 April but I don’t know if anyone besides Scopley staff that can answer this question any longer and be giving 100% honest and accurate information.

When you see the question, and it’s going to come up. How are you planning to help our newest or least knowledgeable Wayfinders and Explorers?

You’re assuming even they can (at the moment). :->

Glad to know you think so little of my explanation.

You do not know this. Pokemon Go still needs Wayspots that are not Stops or Gyms for Power Spots.

I don’t know this, that is why I’m asking the question. We don’t know what is going to happen after 15 April 10:30AM. I firmly believe we need to ask the tough questions of the game maker. How can we be effective as Explorers and Wayfinders with ā€œDude, trust me.ā€

As long term contributors, I don’t think it’s out of line to expect a little accountability. If you felt this was a shot at you, it certainly was not.

I personally appreciate you attempting to help the newer people that come to the forum.

You put in way more work than 90% of us, and you should be commended.

Thank you for all of your work discovering Niantic’s use of S2 cells, critiquing their use of language, and explaining it all to the rest of us.

i didn’t discover anything, but the ā€œblah, blah, blahā€ after quoting me got to me. i can only explain things that were explained to me.

i still think we will be submitting to a database which pokestops and gyms will be pulled from by the same algorithm, or there would be chaos. and i doubt scopely would want to upset the cash cow they just bought.

if this is intended to be a message to scopely, then i have derailed it. but i don’t see any evidence of their presence on the forum.

@cyndiepooh That is what I am hoping for. Their presence! We’ve all put in a lot of time, energy, and money. And I think we deserve to be heard and responded to.

Also, sorry about the BLAH, that wasn’t meant to be a shot at you.

Props on the assumption warning.

Hi @BlameJamal
I’ve moved your topic to the main post since we collect all questions here. I’m afraid that your message probablly won’t be seen in the flood of ā€˜general discussion’ threads.

Just want to preface that this is my personal view, I have no Ambo insider info about how this will all work.

I think that’s inaccurate. I think that any nominations made in PokĆ©mon GO until we have the map separation (as in when Ingress gets a new system) will still sync in to Ingress for a while.

Guess we will find out in the coming days though.

How disappointing it is to know that you will have to send the same request twice, as an ingress and PokĆ©mon go player. I took advantage of the 80 nominations and saw how they appeared in both games or in one of them. This is isolating the ingress players I don’t hope to know how they think so that this works in the future. Why don’t they simply keep 1 same map for all games?

Because Scopely bought Wayfarer and PokƩmon GO (and other games) so they want to have that map.

Ingress wasn’t part of the deal so Niantic needs to have their own map for that, as PokĆ©mon Go and Ingress are now owned by two different companies.

Niantic didn’t think about the ingress players and how will it affect them in the long run? While wayspots will increase in PokĆ©mon GO due to the large number of players, ingress players will have a setback!! Or a decreasing increase, is it okay 2 different maps but that synchronize the wayspots in real time that are copied? I’m still intrigued by those who only play ingress and not PokĆ©mon GO

I don’t think you understand the situation. Scopely bought PGO, Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, Campfire, and Wayfarer. They either did not want Ingress and Peridot or those games were not up for sale (we will probably never know the answer to that).

Ingress had a map, submission and review process before PGO even existed. If they want to, they can reinstitute a system for maintaining the map that runs Ingress.

I mainly play Ingress. I’ll still be submitting things.

I was around when it was just OPR and no PokĆ©mon GO players submitting or reviewing. I don’t think it’ll be an issue in the new system, and it wasn’t an issue back in OPR. :person_shrugging:

You may be looking at this differently. All Niantic is going to be thinking about is ingress (and Peridot). Ingress was the first game Niantic came up with aside from Field Trip. That predates me, so I don’t have a lot of details.

But as @seaprincesshnb said, Scopley bought the games division and their main priority is those games. Niantic will be 100% focused on the Geospatial map and Ingress. We don’t know how it’s all going to work.

I play Ingress as well, so I am a little nervous as to how high up on the light Ingress will be with Niantic Spatial.

But I don’t know if I make myself understood, of course I know that Scopely bought those games, what I’m going to is that it will generally cost twice the work to send applications, since if it is sent from PokĆ©mon it will only appear in PokĆ©mon and is sent from Ingress, it will only appear in Ingress. Because simply yes, leave a map separately, but that continues to synchronize with the PokĆ©mon poi. Of course I play ingress, but it seems like a disadvantage, can’t you see it? Sending the same request 2 times (1 in each game) is crazy!

Of course I thought about the benefit of all the games, (no matter if I sent a request from Pokemon or ingress, since I knew it would appear in the 2 games or at least 1. Anyway, my point is the hassle of doing double work and that the points on the Pokemon map will continue to grow and in ingress it will be very slow, really slow

Why do you think it’ll be slow on Ingress?

It may be that people will just have to choose one game to nominate in. I can’t see many doing ā€œdouble shiftsā€.

I don’t plan to nominate from PokĆ©mon GO
