Why would they rid the 20m rule? Thats existed long before PoGo
We get a free game to play.
Agree. Any money that we spend nominating/editing Wayspots is at our cost, not Wayfarer/Spatial/Scopely, any of the involved companies.
Yes, I am usually out and about running errands in my car when I find something to submit (car is parked and not moving, donât worry), or just going for a drive in a rural area, but I have never really thought about the financial cost of the gas I use since Iâm typically doing other things as well, which I need my car for.
Not all actually use cars or vehicles that you have to pay to fuel, as some are walking/biking around, which may have no to very minimal costs to it. Some may take public transit around their city, may have a monthly transit pass, and may not pay much to ride every day to where they need to go. They may even combine some walking/biking into their commutes, which may save them a little money, especially if they donât have a monthly pass.
You may have a bill for your device, but youâre not paying for the apps, youâre paying to have cell and data service with your device. A smartphone is still a phone and its main features are for communicating with others. If you have a restricted data plan, such as a couple GBs a month, you most likely are aware of this when using your device, and monitor this to make sure you donât go over (I used to be on a plan like this, and yes, I made sure I monitored my data usage).
We agreed not to be compensated for our work, and do it for free. I mean, what is an upgrade even worth?
Now, letâs get back on track talking about the news of the day and the upcoming split.
Or Reddit.
The irony here.
Ingress was seeded with a imports from 3rd party sources.
And paid for portals have long been part of the game. Jamba Juice was the first, I think? I donât think I was playing when Circle-K had their run.
We know from recent experience that it is possible to track which game contributions come from.
I would not be surprised if they eventually start going into separate queues, and anything not yet processed would be separated in a similar way.
ZipCar and some mineral water from pharmacies were way before that.
Thatâs how first VRLAs were seeded.
Ahh, yes. The license plates being codes, and they didnât realize they were sequential.
And I threw away about 2000 Hint caps a few months before I got back into Ingress. I think those codes were still good.
Welcome to the forum @thehatter and @Dancnbutterfly
Thanks for your thoughts on this
Hi @Ferrothorn
Some of your concerns maybe be answered in this statement by Tintino:
Of course they donât, but do they get to say anything about it?
Spatial currently owns the map; it was not sold to Scopely. Scopely bought the Wayfarer programming and interfacing, what allows us to submit new Wayspots and edits currently.
Is it really so? I didnât know that the map itself is still owned by Niantic, I thought that the map was part of Wayfarer. Well then it shouldnât be a problem.
Then I hope that Niantic gets some sweet bucks from leasing the map to Spatial.
Itâs called the Geospatial Browser on the Niantic Spatial Platform. It has spatial in the name. The website for the map also has the new Spatial company logo on it.
What is being made is a new map management system for Ingress and the new Spatial company, which to me sounds like Wayfarer, which is how we currently manage submissions. Scopely could be getting a current copy of the map, but thatâs unknown, but they do have the current management system, which is Wayfarer.
Yeah, I know the Geospatial browser. But thatâs just a browser and I wasnât sure about that actual data. But yeah, that clears things up if the data remains in Nianticâs hands.
So none of the games are losing existing waypoints then, there just wonât be any sync post split. Thatâs a relief, thanks!
Still gonna need a replacement for IITC & a bug fix for those old ingress likes getting ported though. Hope Tintino (or someone else) can address those as well
@NianticTintino will there be challenges where ingress gets Pogo sync data post data for review & vice versa
Usually from rural, semi rural.areas
Iâm really disappointed with this and I think itâs detrimental to the game.
I have no doubt that Ingress players make up a disproportionate number of submissions in-game, but PoGo players benefit more from them. However, Ingress players do also benefit from PoGo players exploring as well. The map is much richer for having both sets of players contribute to the database. Even if Niantic run their own database, having the two sync would be helpful.
Iâm also concerned that any new map system will take a LONG time to spin up, just as Wayfarer did. Submissions in Ingress were shut down for years because Niantic didnât have a way of coping with the volume, Wayfarer fixed that. Being able to find new portals is an important part of high-level gameplay in Ingress, it will be damaging if this goes on hiatus.
May I ask in this Wayfarer Community Form what jurisdiction the Pokestop Scan and Portal Scan data will fit into after the split? As far as I know the data is utilized in the Lightship VPS, Niantic Lightship is renamed to Niantic Spatial Platform on November 11, 2024.
I know that some people may be saddened by this announcement. But I personally am very happy that Niantic Wayfarer is now under the jurisdiction of trainers. If the dream comes true, we can only hope that Pikmin Bloomâs bloomer and Monster Hunter Nowâs hunter will be welcomed as Wayfarer members as soon as possible. Especially bloomers are crazy about collecting beautiful postcards, and they will be good Explorers if you can clearly show them the rules of Wayspot photos. I have high hopes for Scopelyâs development capabilities
