It’s Friday, I’m in a mood, and I want to see recent waypoints y’all have gotten accepted that you’re proud of. I think sometimes we spend a lot of time on the forum venting frustrations, and while that’s valid, I thought it might be good to celebrate some successes.
My high point this week was a decorative wood carving wall art at a Brazilian steakhouse at an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend. We walked into the restaurant, I saw this, and went “are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
Roli trigger warning - I can’t use spoiler tags on this for you.
LOOK AWAY NOW
THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE
SERIOUSLY, IT’S A BUG
Unfortunately, my favorite recent wayspot might only be a power spot or a postcard in Pikmin Bloom. It’s in an occupied cell that won’t ever become unoccupied (I don’t think the footbridge is gonna move). But it’s so great I couldn’t resist submitting it.
So I was in a place called Milldale in the Derbyshire Dales
And I nominated this footbridge which was accepted. IT is a Scheduled Monument. That means it is considered historically significant. For a number of reasons.
Now called Viator’s Bridge. Though historically older than when named Viator’s Bridge in the 17th Century (that’s the 16 hundreds). In the UK there are kinda 4 types of listings. Scheduled Monument. Grade I, Grade II* and Grade II. No your eyes do not decieve you. II*.
So to say I was stoked you would be right - I got to nominate a scheduled monument. AND Milldale had no waypoints present so double win. If you like walking (proper walking) and beautiful views. You cannot go wrong here.
You’re not wrong. I need to take a trip into the city sometime before the weather turns hostile, see what noms I can accomplish there. Perhaps most of it will be picked over, but I bet there’s some things not everyone will have considered…
A nomination that has a meaning for you can be great for a number of reasons. Some areas it is hard to have the most beautiful or historical or or and or. So nailing a nomination that has meaning to you is cool
Also nice to see trail markers that are not a close up of the trail marker but context to the area. And I love the colour of the leaves matching the yellow writing and marker. Autumn anyone :-). I wonder how many people outside of the UK know what allotments are too They may exist everywhere but who knows.
Translation: Baroque rural hospital, Hospital from 1765. The relief above the entrance shows the Holy Trinity along with the crest of family von Skronsky.
One day while reviewing I came across a bunch of novice-style nominations from a rural region near me. The language pointed to nominations being written by a child. As a rural player myself, I felt bad for them, so I went on a bit of a quest using my knowledge as a local historian to research their village. I travelled there with a map of possible locations, added missing photos and descriptions, then added 6 POIs to this little village - not sure how many showed up in-game, but I hope it made a difference to the players there.
I’ve always included what’s behind the marker in the photo because there are so many and it’s nice to see where it takes you. Didn’t notice the colours, they really do match. And I always give context to the path too, where it’s coming from or going to
See, that’s going out to be someone’s hero. And local historian work is always fun.
I’ve become a little bit of a history nerd for our local Catholic parish, nominating the rectory (built in 1908), a Mary statue at what was once the Catholic school (1951, the school closed in 2008), a stone crest on the side of the community center (with the Latin motto Deus Meus Adjutor Meus)…
