Yesterday, I received a warning because “The nomination has been submitted away from its actual location”. This has been done undeliberately and was probably due to minor gps drift. After inspection on streetview, the real-world difference was maximum 5 meters. However, when you submit a nomination, there’s no option to look at streetview, you get a top-down satellite view so it feels like an honest mistake. Because of that warning, I wanted to take no risks whatsoever so I reanalyzed other nominations that I made on the same day. There’s one that seems to be off 2-3 meters too from its actual location, again as an honest mistake, it’s very hard to pin a small info sign on a top-down satellite view. Unfortunately, I can’t withdraw that one because it is already “Under review by Niantic”. Am I in trouble now, even though I made that nomination before I received my first warning? I feel like there used to be a small margin for distance back in the days, also when I review nominations there’s hardly any pin that’s on the exact spot. It’s also a very weird feeling, being stressed over losing access to my Pokémon Go account for wanting to help my local community. What to do?
Hello and Welcome @Ruben1880
Thanks for posting I can see this is a stressful time for you.
Please be patient the Wayfarer Team can respond via a DM to discuss your whole situation. It is the weekend so it may take a little time.
First if it is warning then the key point to take from that is that you learn to try and be more accurate.
It is a very good idea to do what you have done and review each nomination to check.
It can be tricky to get the location correct on the small screen trying to zoom in and the position changing.
A good technique is that having made received the submission confirmation I put the nomination on hold - I try to do this within 6 hours of submission.
In that email under the photo there are the co-ordinates of your submission. you can copy them into google to look in more detail where you have located the pin. If it is wrong you can then withdraw. If its ok check the text, edit and you are good to go.
Personally I am finding the method of submitting using the new web based route significantly easier to place the pin. Perhaps give that a try?
Hello and welcome,
Sorry it is not for a better reason.
Being “a few metres out” shouldn’t happen but we don’t usually see any warnings for this.
Unfortunately, we get posts stating “a few metres” out that turn out to be much more so without evidence we are unable to state whether we believe it is a problem.
If you would like us to look in to this more then please supply the Title and the GPS Location (shown on the email received when you first made the nomination).
Secondly, are you aware of the S2 Cells system used by Pokemon Go? see https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/t/why-an-accepted-wayspot-may-not-be-used-in-pokemon-go-s2-cells-and-pokemon-go .
If Reviewers have seen that your “few metres out” has placed your nomination in to an empty neighbouring cell then they may have considered this as “Abuse” of the game board.
Hopefully a member of staff can DM you with the details but it may be delayed due to the weekend.
Good luck.
Thank you for the extra information. I have looked into the S2 cell information, so I can totally understand the warning now. It did indeed put it into a neighboring cell unfortunately. I also don’t think it’s unfair of me getting the warning, I acknowledge the fact that I did make a mistake and was not being careful enough.
However, I am wondering if the nomination, that is currently in the status “under review by Niantic”, will give me a suspension or not? It’s also off by a few meters (I think in this case I started submitting after taking the additional picture, putting me a few meters away from the actual POI). It does not place it in another cell in this case, and was already under review before I received my warning, so there was no way to correct my mistake after receiving the warning.
There were no bad intentions on my end, I fully admit on not being careful enough, but I do hope I get to chance to be more careful in the future, rather than being suspended over something I can’t correct anymore.
I would not speak for staff, any warnings will be from them.
My opinion is that you should be fine with this, if anything does come of it then you can always appeal mentioning this post stating you realised the error and was looking for advice.
You could also use the “Help Chat” and self report if you would prefer staff to reject it for you then re-submit correctly.
In regards to these signs, they look familiar and I believe someone on the forums had problems getting these accepted. (I can’t find the post at the moment but if anybody does can they tag the wayfarer in question to give advice).
These are hard to get accepted, and many have even been removed from the map in the past. More info can be found at the following threads:
While most of the discussions have been around the bike markers, I would assume that the walking markers are also considered ineligible and just a part of infrastructure.
Thanks for finding the links, I knew they looked familiar.
Had to go out and was already running late…
Why can’t all countries be like mine, make it a lot easier (for me) ![]()
I strongly think this is incorrect.
These walking signs are for other purposes, even if they look similiar.
I review a lot of these and accept them. When I review them I also see tons of these markers on the duplicate map, so they are getting accepted (obviously don’t know if it was by community or internal review), but with the large numbers that I see them, and no reports of these markers ever being removed, makes me believe it a eligible hiking trail marker.
You may disagree, but there are official staff statements that say these are ineligible:
Unless staff changes their minds, they are currently inelgible. If you get them in review, they should be rejected.
I did provide you with a report of many being removed, and there have been others removed in the past, and it has been going on for a few years now that Wayfarer has been removing them (it is usually Wayfarer that is removing these, but some have been reported for removal by the community). Here are a few more reports that I found just searching for Belgium here in the forums:
Here’s the link to the search that I did, if you are wanting to take a look for yourself:
This statement was only mentioned for the biking markers, not specificly for these hiking markers.
And this search only gives up for biking markers. I stand by my decision.
They are the same things, infrastructure signs, regardless if they are for walking or biking. Staff has discussed these types of signs specifically many times and have concluded that they are ineligible. And yes, some of the walking ones have been removed as well as the biking ones.
Take the issue up with staff if you disagree or ask an ambo for more info.
Never seen any of these ones removed, also didn’t find any in the search thread you gave.
Staff won’t comment on this disagreement.
Im gonna step away from this thread.
Thanks for the suggestion… I agree with @AMG7070 these don’t appear to be the same nor to have the same issues than the ones in the shared threads, nor have I seen any reports of these being removed.
