I submitted four different nominations: two with street name signs, one for a local hairdresser, and one for a decorative marble pinecone at the entrance of a villa. The photos were perfect, no people or animals, high-quality images, and the supporting photo showed the location and its surroundings. All points were accessible on foot or located on sidewalks, and I added precise, concise descriptions that were grammatically correct.
Welcome @366499 !
If you log in on the wayfarer website you should be able to see the rejection reason for each of the different submissions you did.
But based on what you describe I do not see these 4 promoting a great place to exercise, explore or be social at.
To be more specific:
street name signs are considered to be generic signature and not promoting any of the three wayfarer criteria. see also: Trails & Markers
A hairdresser is in most cases a generic business, unless there is something very exceptional about this one that makes it a great place to explore or be social at? see also: Generic/Non-Generic Businesses
The entrance of a villa still belongs to the property of the villa, which is very likely a single family private residential property, which is one of the first rejection reasons for wayspot nominations. Also the edge is part of that property and therefore not eligible, see also: Private Residences, Farmland & K-12
If you want to share more specific information that is up to you, anyone here can then help to give you more detailed tips.
Hey, thanks for the reply! In fact, after reading more on the forum, I found out that many people used to submit street name signs, and that’s why they’re sometimes present in the game. But I now understand that they don’t actually meet the criteria, and I also see why the pinecone and the barbershop were rejected. However, I’m still not sure why a hotel wouldn’t be accepted. Maybe because it’s a private business?
Also, could I ask where I can find resources on how to view Level 14 and 17 S2 cells? What software can I use on iOS for that? I want to be more precise and better oriented with my nominations.
Good that you found your way here already! A hotel is most often also considered to be a generic business, unless it has something special about it like the hair dresser.
About cells this is a good read: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
Someone recently pointed out to me that this great article (which I also recommend) references
- S2 Region coverer — arguably the best tool to visualize S2 cells of any level over any area
But that tool is now defunct.
I use iitc (which is a version of the Ingress map and shows portals) with a pogotools overlay. You can search the internet for those, or folks on the Wayfarer Discussion Discord can help walk you through installing them. I could not have set it up without help.
I am thrilled that Niantic is allowing us to discuss these tools openly on the forum, but I do like to stress folks should use these tools for knowledge of where to look, not to pin things in empty cells which aren’t actually there. And with powerspots being a thing, even Wayspots that don’t become Pokestops or gyms can still be useful for that game.
Hey, thank you so much for your help and thoroughness!
Thanks a lot! I guess it’s time to do some research.
Hey, IITC is failing to log in with Google or Apple accounts on iOS, making it unusable. However, I found this site:
Have you ever used it? You can select the desired cells from the settings. It doesn’t seem to be super-updated regarding PokéStops and gyms; for example, I see a gym marked as a PokéStop at first glance. But I think it works to give an idea of the layout of the nearby cells.
The trouble with PogoMap is that the data is entirely user submitted, and it often isn’t accurate because people don’t know how to correctly source coordinates. So it can be out of date in areas where it has had contributions, and things may not be placed in the cells that they appear to be in. Also, their satellite view just isn’t great.
IITC is much better to use if you can troubleshoot the issue you’ve got.
As you mentioned, in addition to not being updated with all the Gyms/PokéStops, it seems quite inaccurate regarding the placement of waypoints, making it difficult to determine how many there are in a specific cell.
If I can’t manage with the app, I’ll look into the desktop browser version of IITC.
Thank you very much!
Have you created an Ingress game account?
You need that to access the intel map and therefore IITC.
If you continue to have problems with IITC then specific help can be found in the Wayfarer Discussion Discord, which if you have a Discord account you can just join.
Hey thanks so much! In fact, I didn’t understand why there was no option to create an account, but only “sign in.” I assumed it was a Niantic account…
I’ll try following the steps mentioned by this YouTuber: https://youtu.be/cuncc14ESeg?si=kjuvh3gKpz27A3ME
Hopefully, the procedure is up to date. Otherwise, I’ll check on Discord for suggestions. Thanks to you and to everyone else who responded and helped me!
Edit: it works!
